Tappet

The function of a tappet is to transmit the thrust from the camshaft to the pushrod (or valve stem) and to withstand the lateral forces exerted by the rotating camshaft. A adjusting screw is mounted at the top of the tappet to adjust the valve clearance. Insufficient cylindricity of the tappet can prevent the valve from closing properly, potentially causing the valve to bend. Precise measurement ensures the accuracy of the valve train’s motion.
